Infinite Writers

A woman in a cocoon on a web hangs from a tree branchThe Infinite Writers program is an ongoing writing workshop available to women who are incarcerated at Lemon Creek Correctional Center in Juneau, Alaska. The writing workshop is a weekly offering (Mondays at 1:15-3:00) open to all women at the prison, i.e. they need not have minimum academic credentials to join. Each class features reading and discussion of a short piece of writing, followed by creative prompts and time to write. Writing that comes out of this workshop is published on the Voices Uncaged blog, a space we share with the Women Writers’ Workshop at Fairbanks Correctional Center.

In addition to the Monday inside workshop, we offer a biweekly outside workshop that meets on Sundays at Juneau’s Valley Public Library and is open to anyone in our community. We hope to create a space that’s accessible for people transitioning out of Lemon Creek and others who’ve faced barriers to this kind of education opportunity.

Weekly workshops are facilitated by a collective of Juneau women. We are always looking for more collaborators. If you are interested in joining us, please get in touch.
