The Fairbanks Children’s Museum’s partnership with FCC started as an idea in the summer of 2018 and came to fruition in September. We believe that children with incarcerated family members need and deserve a comfortable and safe space to connect with their families.
We have installed a magnetic board with TEGU magnetic blocks in the secure visitation area to make that space more inviting and engaging for children. In the contact visitation space, we have added a selection of museum favorite books and puppets, and have installed a felt board with a variety of felt stories.
We have chosen unique resources that are permitted inside the facility and also encourage parents to get down on the same physical level as their children to engage and connect.
